AB - This paper aims at exploring several aspects related with creative activities by qualitatively introspecting the creative works done by secondary school students including gifted students. The participating students attended intensive robot classes using GoGo board and other robotic tools including sensors and ended up with designing and creating their own robot artifacts. The author collected the participating students’robot outcomes done in Feb 2013, in Jan 2015 and July 2015 respectively including video data, and informal interview as for complementary data analysis.
The qualitative review was depicted as followings. First, the female students seemed to prefer designing relatively simple and pretty interactive robot pieces based on their skills learned from the classes whereas the male students tended to fully utilize the functions of GoGo board and several sensors to integrate for their own creative inventions and engaged themselves into hardware constructing and programming. Second, some gifted students gained interesting insights from the GoGo bumper car project and applied them into their creative projects and accomplished their works by sustaining cycle of constructing, coding, testing and debugging in a limited time session. At the end, I compared the students’works with several relevant international cases in order to indicate the possible future direction such as kinetic arts, and suggested several implications for creative robot education.
