AB - The sexuality and violence of YouTube`s content far exceed that of the existing media, but due to insufficient regulation, the youth are exposed to unprotected harmful content. There is a need for education on YouTube literacy, the ability to properly analyze and interpret YouTube`s content. The purpose of this study was to present a new methodology for YouTube literacy education to enable children and adolescents to self-evaluate the quality of information and to consume and share contents according to social responsibility and ethical standards. A differentiated educational program was developed by fusion of the Civic Media Literacy and the Design Thinking methodology. The effectiveness of the program was enhanced through expert validations. As a result, the YouTube literacy education program significantly contributed to the improvement of students' media literacy capabilities. Especially, it contributed to the development of self-regulation, ability to self-control over immersion, and the ability to plan and develop ethical and healthy contents. Considering that this competency can greatly influence students' healthy learning experiences, ways of communication, and formation of identity, further efforts are needed to spread research and programs on YouTube literacy in the future.
