ABSTRACT

<Blind Geronimo and his Brother> by Arthur Schnitzler was a popular performance repertoire of the Towolhoe in the 1920s. Towolhoe adapted and performed this original work as <Aegok>, and later <Aegok> was also performed by Taeyanggeukjang. Geugyesuryeonguhoe’s evaluation of <Aegok> was generally negative. What should be noted here is the fact that Geugyesuryeonguhoe performed this work as a radio drama and a stage play. Geugyesuryeonguhoe produced and transmitted a radio drama under the title <Brother> in 1937, and in February 1938, a year later, it was adapted under the title <Blind brother> and the play hosted by Dong-A Ilbo participated in the contest, two weeks after the contest produced and transmitted a radio drama of <Blind brother> again. In addition Kim Bokjin, who appeared in this performance adapted and presented this work as a fairy tale. Th e reason why these activities of Geugyesuryeonguhoe are attracting attention is that the performance exposes a decision that partially damages the basic tone of modern drama in the hope of a public-friendly performance. Geugyesuryeonguhoe in the process of rationalizing the performance of <Blind brother> had to admit that the goal of their performance was a public-friendly play.
