ABSTRACT

This thesis examines the event outline, procedure, and significance of “Miro Dano Festival” in Miro-myeon Samcheok-si held in 2023, and examines its cultural property value. The 2023 Miro Dano Festival was expanded to a two-day schedule, going further from the previous one. This reflected the will of the local people who hope that the Miro Dano Festival will become a representative festival in the region. The event was led by a total of 11 shamans(巫女) and musicians(樂士), including Kim Jong-sik, the main shaman. In addition to the main event, additional events such as folk games, experience booths, and song festivals were organized to attract interest and participation from villagers and visitors. As such, 2023 Miro Dano Festival was more expanded in size and content than before, but on the other hand, there were also areas that needed to be supplemented at several points, such as guidance on the contents and procedures of Dano-gut, harmony with Dano-gut and additionalevents, and deficiencies in the progress. Next, this thesis discusses the cultural property value of Miro Dano Festival. It is a major intangible cultural heritage in the East Sea region that has been handed down so far, and its meaning is considerable. So it is necessary not only to remain at the level of local events, but also to carry out the work of obtaining public recognition as an intangible cultural heritage representing Korea. As a process of preparing the foundation for it, this thesis proposed a examination of consistency with the current intangible cultural property policy, a search for the relationship with Ogeumjam Festival and local folk events, and the necessity of archive work on Miro Dano Festival.
