ABSTRACT

The following is a summary of the tasks necessary to properly establish the value of Miro Danoje and to preserve, inherit, and develop it. First, the identity of Miro Danoje can be more clearly established by investigating, organizing, and analyzing Dano-gut, village Seonang-gosa, and ancestral rites traditions, which are handed down by each sub-town in Miro-myeon. Second, there is Dangun among the spirits enshrined at Gholmal and Dungjeom in Hageonori, Miro-myeon. However, there is no “Geori” in Miro Dano-gut. It seems necessary to pay attention and focus on Dangun in the process of Miro Dano-gut. Third, Miro Dano-gut can be seen as Seonang-gut, mainly led by Kang Shin-mu who engaged in shamanic profession in this area, and a gutdang is established in front of the village shrine to perform a gut. Shamans participating in Byeolsin-gut also engage in Miro Dano-gut, but only in an invited capacity. Additionally, the spirits highly revered in Gutgeori and the associated spiritual elements are clearly distinguished from those in Byeolsin-gut. Accordingly, in-depth research and recognition of the Miro Dano-gut, which is distinct from Byeolsingut on theeast coast, is needed. Fourth, the center of Dano-gut in Samcheok is Ogeumjamje. Therefore, it is necessary to make efforts to establish the tradition of Miro Dano-gut by identifying the commonalities and differences compared to Ogeumjamje. Fifth, in order to properly and valuely transmit and preserve Miro Danoje, it is necessary to organizethe values of Miro Danoje around historicality, artistry, academicity, locality, representation, and social and cultural values.
