ABSTRACT

Mystery fiction has always been a genre that shows a structure in which power is concentrated on the two characters of a detective and a criminal. This study attempted to confirm the power structure of the viewpoint subjects in mystery novels based on Susan S. Lancer’s Poetry of Viewpoints. Accordingly, the “Investigator Series” among Song Si-woo’s works was analyzed with viewpoint analysis in three directions: qualification, contact, and position. First of all, qualification shows the discord between social identity and personal identity so as not to look at the event from the perspective of a specific speaker in this narrative. It also shows a form of direct contact with the incidental person indirectly from the case among the subject. Finally, from the standpoint of the story, “Investigator Series” shows an extended form of pursuit of truth rather than who the criminal is, the method of the crime, and the motive of the crime. The truth they are looking for is to confirm the effect of a crime and the problems of the social organization surrounding it on the average person who has been invisible.
