ABSTRACT

Choe Ja’s Ode to the Three Capitals (三都賦), found in Volume 2 of the Dongmunseon, presents a dialogue between three figures—two commoners from Pyeongyang and Gaeseong, and a government official in Ganghwado. Through their discussion of each city, the work reflects Goryeo’s political situation during the capital’s move to Ganghwado. The text appears in both the Dongmunseon and the Sinjeung Dongguk Yeoji Seungnam, with near-identical translations by Yang Joo-dong (1968) and Hong Chan-yu (1969), available via the Korean Classics DB. Though authoritative, these versions are now dated, prompting the need for a modern, annotated translation.
