AB - Lee Hae-jo stated that he authored Okjunghwa based on the lyrics of Chunhyangga performed by the pansori singer Pa r k Ki-hong. Fo r a long time, researchers have attempted to locate Park ’s lyrics, yet they remain undiscovered to this day. This paper posits that the content of Pa r k ’s lyrics can be reconstructed by comparing Okjunghwa with several preceding texts. The comparative analysis reveals numerous passages where the phraseology of Okjunghwa directly matches that of earlier texts. Such textual overlaps acrosshis master text—were themselves compiled from various existing versions of Chunhyangjeon (or Chunhyangga). Therefore, to trace the origins of Okjunghwa, efforts should be redirected from searching for Pa r k ’s specific lyrics to accurately examining the landscape of Chunhyangjeon variants around 1900 and how pansori Chunhyangga was actually performed during that period.
