The purpose of this study was to find out about the family concept recognized by nursing students in a modern society where changes in traditional family values lead to various family crises and to draw up a new concept of family change in response to social crisis.
For this purpose, the Phenomenological Qualitative Research Methodology was adopted and analyzed using the Topical Analysis Method. The analysis targets selected 20 nursing and male and female college students for their study.
Analysis Results by Subject is 'structural aspects of the family', 'functional aspects of the family', 'Valuable aspects of the family' and 'relational aspects of the family'.
Based on these results, it presented a changed concept of family that responds to the family crisis, such as family breakup, in a rapidly changing modern society. The results of this study are as follows: First, in terms of family structure, research participants had mixed traditional and progressive values of marriage, divorce, remarriage, and a marriage graduation. The filial piety and economic support for parents were generally recognized as descendants duty in the system, and most of them had good feelings about relatives and hometowns.
Second, in terms of the function of the family, most of the participants were positive about the birth of their children after marriage, and their children were recognized as precious beings.
Third, in terms of family values, most of the participants had a desirable concept of harmony between individualism and familyism. In authoritarianism and egalitarianism, decision-making power favored consensus decisions that respected each other's opinions and recognized that the sharing of family and parenting should be respected and shared.
Fourth, in terms of family relationships, study participants listened to dinner, dining out or weekend out for leisure activities and generally had a good relationship with their parents. The main cause was a lot of communication between parents and their children.
With such research, were able to look at the family concepts of nursing students. Through this research, the family concept of nursing college students will be understood and serve as resources
