ABSTRACT

Now, the wind of the convergence is blowing in the academic community. The wind has spread throughout our whole society beyond all industries without tying down the academic field. People have clamored as though big trouble happen if they are not doing convergence . However, it seems that sense of convergence is not that clear enough the way that many people say to it. In addition, I feel that the evaluation of it is not impartial; because the concept of convergence that we often used has been contaminated by many miscellaneous meanings. The core concept among them is the consilience ; the concept is derived from biologist Edward Wilson and it has its roots in reductionism. Anti-reductionist criticisms of consilience appear often in philosophical discussions. But I do not think it is justified to oppose this just because consilience rooted in reductionism. I think we should note what Jang Hasok pointing out that the reversed of the reduction, namely, complementary role of the humanities including the possibility of claiming reductionist consilience is possible.
