A momentous shift in American intellectuals’ understanding of humanity, culture, and nature began in the 1960s and 1970s. Symbolic of the transition was a gradual substitution of primary definitions of the term environmentalism, from the malleability of human values, knowledge, and goals due to the overwhelming importance of culture, to the care and respect for the complex web of relationships across the diversity of species. The significance of environmentalism in its earlier definition was eroded as the post-World War II intellectual consensus pairing cultural environmentalism and human distinctiveness unraveled for a number of reasons, including the appeal of biological arguments to segments of the left coalition as well as questions raised by the debates about behaviorism and linguistics. In retrospect, it also seems that the shift in definition to the ecological sense of environmentalism was itself a stimulus rather than simply a symptom of the transition. As humanity assumed a new position as part of rather than separate from and dominating the natural world, a new characterization of environmentalism underscored the new message encoded in the changes in biological and psychological research.

This study suggests a method for developing cultural teaching materials designed for overseas students learning the Korean language. The specific focus is the King Sejong Institute, established in October 2012 with the explicit purpose of promoting the Korean language and culture as well as improving the national brand image. However, the study also recognizes that, insofar as the unilateral spread of a culture is not consistent with the trends of globalization and multiculturalism, it can cause hostility among learners in other cultures. The realization of “interculturalism” as one of the operational goals of the King Sejong Institute could be a solution to this problem. Although it needs further discussion and more solid implementation plans, interculturalism is a philosophy that can lead to the co-existence of cultures; it seeks true social integration as well as a mature attitude for pursuing global citizenship. Based on this critical viewpoint, this study firstly examines the concept of interculturalism and its methods of realization. Secondly the study verifies whether interculturalism has been effectively reflected in the “Sejong Korean Language” program as well as in the "Cultural Curricula of King Sejong Institute". The study concludes with a proposal on how to reflect interculturalism within cultural teaching materials.

This study was conducted to examine how teachers at elementary, middle, high school perceived safety at school and safety education performed in Korean school system. Among 9,842 participants in this study, information about 7,775 participants was considered. More specifically, the current study was to analyze attitude to accident at school, necessity of safety education at school, ways of obtaining materials needed in safety education. The results obtained from analysis indicated that teachers at the elementary school was perceived safety issues less seriously compared to other levels of teachers. In addition, compared to female teachers, male teachers considered safety issues at school less seriously across all levels of schools. However, teachers across all the levels agreed to have safety related education at school. However, In parallel with this line, results obtained from the logistic regression indicated that as higher recognition of safety education and higher levels of school increased, possibility of being safety education as independent subject was increased.
