Purpose: This study highlights the correlation between healthcare policies and emergency medical centers. This analysis also examines the spatial characteristics of emergency medical center Chronologically through case studies. Methods: The review covers healthcare policies, facility standards, and emergency medical center, selecting five units, one from each period, to analyze their spatial structures and characteristics. The spatial maps of Space Syntax were employed for analyzing case studies. Results: As the severity of the treatment increases, the depth of the treatment area also becomes deeper depending on the severity. The spatial maps indicate that it can be seen that the tree-shape tree structure changes to an annular cluster structure emphasizing the connection between the spaces in the emergency medical centers. This shows that space efficiency, safety, visual control, and flexibility in the planning of the emergency medical centers are crucial factors affecting the spatial structure of the emergency medical centers. Implications: In the future, it is expected that Korean emergency medical center will be more focused on efficiency, safety, and visual control in the planning.
