AB - Purpose: Medical equipment in hospital is becoming more advanced and specialized, and the robot technology is expanding now. So the operation and management of devices is vital and influential factor for patient safety and quality of care. This study aim to compare and find out characteristics of medical equipment management in the United States, Japan, and Korea, focusing on clinical engineer‘s role. Methods: A literature review and website searches were conducted, analyzing key aspects such as qualification standards, job responsibilities, maintenance systems, and regulatory frameworks. Results: There are significant differences in the roles of clinical engineers. The U.S. emphasizes risk-based management(MEMP) and often outsources maintenance due to geographic constraints. In Japan, clinical engineering technicians assist medical staff and manage in-hospital repair rooms. Korea primarily follows national regulations but lacks a standardized role for clinical engineers. Implications: Establishing clear clinical engineering roles and adopting risk-based maintenance strategies may improve equipment safety and efficiency in Korea.
