AB - Inthispaper,thedevelopmentofgunpowderweaponandthechangesin cavalrytacticsin the19th centurywereinvestigated in theperspectiveof Korean martialartshistory.ThedevelopmentofHonggyeongraeran (洪景來─亂) in the early 19th century mostclearly demonstrated the tactics of Joseon Armywhichwasintransitionatthattime.
Typically,the GovernmentRiotArmy used gunpowder weapon as the coretacticstosuppresstherebellion instead ofusingmounted troopsfor fastbreakthrough.Yungwonpilbi(戎垣必備)compiledbyPark Gyeong-jong,MilitaryDrillCommanderdemonstratedthenecessityofgunpowderweapon veryclearly.Duetothechangesintactics,thedutyofcavalrywaslimited tokeepingthepalaceon nightduty,andJeonma (戰馬)wastransformed toBokma (卜馬)transportingthecargo.Especially,duetothechangein marine defense tactics including hand overlines,the numberofartillery increased and cavalry, instead, weakened significantly. Thus, the horseback martialarts training forthe cavalry was limited to the army keepingthepalace.
