ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to grasp the realities and requirements of paraprofessionals in roles, training and duties for better implementation of paraprofessionals system in special education. For this study, 144 paraprofessionals of general and special education schools were employed and researched by questionnaire. The results of this study were as follows.First, main role of paraprofessionals was supporting special students' individual needs and the most difficult role was supporting problematic behavior control. Second, in training of paraprofessionals, training completion time and proper training time was 60 hours. The most necessary contents of training program were special students' characteristics, guidance and problematic behavior control. Third, belongingness level as school personnel was average and the most difficult point was making relationship with special and general education teachers. Based on this results, some suggestions were provided for better implementation of paraprofessionals system in special education.
