ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to investigate effective direction of health subject education through deep and diversified investigation on current status of health subject education in special schools for the mentally retarded. This study was designed, mainly focused on drawing improvement by grasping current status of health subject education at present. The subjects selected 130 teachers in charge of health subject education in 50 special schools for the mentally retarded from all over the country and through preliminary call request, visiting and mail, questionnaire was distributed and collected and 118 sheets of the questionnaires that was answered sincerely was statistically dealt with through SPSS for Windows(ver 12.0) program. The conclusions are as follows; First, it appeared that general recognition levels of teachers on health subject education was generally high and health subject education was very helpful in the development of social adjustment of the mentally retarded. But education object achievement was insufficient due to students' individual variation and lack of suited textbooks. Second, it showed that as for current status of health subject education, present class frequency was thought to be proper and there was no replacement class by other subject. the most effective teaching-learning method in health subject education was thought to be activities-centered lesson and specialty was rather insufficient as other teachers not being in charge of health subject took charge of the education.
