ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to present the direction of improvement on the disabilities human rights education in the elementary social studies. For this purpose, I reviewed about relation to social studies and disabilities human rights education, and analyzed the problems of social studies textbooks and instruction. The results of analysis on textbooks and instruction are as follows. First, disabilities human rights contents in textbooks were presented partially on specific grade, did not coincide with characteristic of social studies, and various views about human rights was lacked. Also, it was described disabilities human rights at a view of protection, benefits and national effort. Second, the classroom instruction have problems as value injection about human rights respect, absence of substantial participation of students and insufficient of process that deal with disabilities problem. In basis of these results I proposed the direction of improvement as follows. First, it has to presented gradually instances of violation of disabilities human rights in all grade level and described disabilities human rights in side called right and social mechanism associated with problem occurrence that is violation. Second, it has to designed instruction as the decision making process for students' various thinking and judgment, and introduced inquire process according to child's developmental stage so that can understand structurally occurrence mechanism of disabilities human rights problem.
