ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to develop a Sibling Program for siblings of children with disabilities which was based affirmative characters and investigate the effect of the program on the coping/adjustment abilities of siblings of children with disabilities. The variables of program were divided into inter-personal and intra-personal characters. The inter-personal characters were maturation and endear, self-esteem and the intra-personal characters were networks to support family and fellowship which felt at same situation. The coping/adjustment abilities were composed six sub- categories, which were competence/knowing, burden, friend-school, anger, psychological health, and future copingㆍadjustment. The Scale of this study was Coping/Adjustment Scale for Children of Siblings with Disabilities developed by Perry(1989). The statical method, t test were used to find difference of control group and experimental group. A pre-post test controlled group design was used in this study through 38 children at elementary school. The conclusion of this study was to present meaningful difference between controlled group and experimental group on copingㆍadjustment, specially, anger and psychological health. But two sub-categories, which were burden, future copingㆍadjustment didn’t make remarkable improvement. For future studies, the limits and the directions were discussed on the current study.
