ABSTRACT

The purposes of this research were to examine the perceptions and concernstages of special education teachers about the 2011 special education curriculum,and seek for the ways to the teachers to adopt the new curriculum. In orderto achieve the research purposes, the survey instrument was developed andconducted with 184 special education teachers. The research results showedthat the participating teachers perceived that the curriculum such as contents,purposes, and the numbers of subjects were quite reasonable. However,they responded that it was hard to implement the curriculum to their ownclassrooms because of the diversity of the students’ needs and the curriculumshould more focus on the specific situations of the students. In addition, thestages of concerns about the new curriculum appeared low and it was interpretedthat the participants did not much concern about adopting the new curriculum. Based on the study results, the suggestions were made for teachers to involvein the activities improving the current situations and adopting the new curriculum.
