ABSTRACT

[Purpose] The purpose of this study was to verify the moderated mediating effects of self-resilience, family resilience, and community resilience in the relationship between post-traumatic stress, parenting stress, and the mental health of parents of children with developmental disabilities. [Methods] A survey was conducted of 300 parents under the age of 65 with children with developmental disabilities living in Gyeongsangbuk-do. The survey data were analyzed using SPSS 25.0, Amos 25.0, and SPSS Process Macro v3.4, and the direct, mediating, and modulating effects and the moderated mediating effect were analyzed. [Results] First, the mediating effect of parenting stress was found to be significant in the relationship between post-traumatic stress and mental health. Second, the moderating effect of ego, family, and community resiliencies was found to be significant in the relationship between parenting stress and mental health. Third, the moderated mediating effect of these resiliencies on parenting stress in the relationship between post-traumatic stress and mental health was significant. [Conclusion] Based on the results of this study, counseling implications to support the mental health of parents of children with developmental disabilities are derived at the individual, family, and community levels.
