AB - This study examines how learner judgment competence inherent in information literacy can be understood in AI environments. This study does not treat AI use as a separate area of AI literacy education. Instead, it examines AI use within the continuity of school library information literacy education. Drawing on UNESCO’s AI Competency Framework for Students (2024), this study reviews student competency statements in relation to the core concepts of information literacy. It also refers to the shared foundations in AASL’s Standards Framework for Learners(2018) to discuss the educational meaning of learner judgment competence in school library contexts. The study suggests three types of judgment. Information access can be understood as judgment of the appropriateness of AI use. Information evaluation can be understood as validity judgment. Information use and creation can be understood as contextual application judgment. These judgments are related to AASL’s shared foundations, including inquire, explore, curate, include, collaborate, and engage. The study argues that information literacy education in AI environments should not focus only on tool use. It should also support learner judgment and responsibility. School library information literacy education can provide an educational context for cultivating learner judgment competence across information access, evaluation, use, and creation in AI environments.
