ABSTRACT

This study aims to examine the gap between the perceived importance and satisfaction of job competencies among youth service librarians in public libraries and to propose directions for competency development. A survey was conducted with youth service librarians, analyzing 28 competencies across three domains. The results indicate that the perceived importance of all competency areas was significantly higher than the level of satisfaction. In particular, substantial gaps were identified in collaboration and promotion skills, understanding of youth, and creativity and program operation. Based on these findings, the study highlights the need for systematic and continuous professional development, institutional support for inter-organizational collaboration and networking, and a shift from program-centered to relationship-centered youth services.
