ABSTRACT

This study aims to examine international trends in reading research within the field of Library and Information Science. To achieve this, 821 English-language journal articles indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection were analyzed through statistical analysis and keyword network analysis. The results show that reading research began to increase significantly after 2011 and grew rapidly in the 2020s following the COVID-19 pandemic. Over time, patterns of collaboration expanded, and both publishing journals and contributing countries became more diversified. Centrality analysis identified ‘public library’, ‘e-book’, and ‘academic library’ as core keywords consistently prominent across all periods. The findings also indicate that international research has emphasized digital reading and academic libraries. In the 2020s, the emergence of keywords such as “COVID-19,” “school library,” and “reading habit” reflects growing interest in the role of school libraries and indicates a shift in reading research from digital reading behavior to reading habit formation in the post-pandemic era. These findings suggest the need for further research that integrates artificial intelligence into reading research, strengthens readers’ advisory research centered on school libraries, and expands the scope of research to encompass diverse readers as well as non-readers.
