ABSTRACT

This study aims to evaluate the effect of reflective journal writing experiences on adult ballet learners. For this purpose, this study conducted a qualitative research method. The analysis of the method revealedthe followings: (1)the participants’ experience of writing a reflective journal was meaningful as a meansof understanding ballet and learning ballet terminology. (2)the process of writing a reflective journalhelped participants enhance their cognition and body awareness. (3)participants experienced fluctuationsin both positive and negative emotions during the process of writing a reflection journal. (4)writing areflection journal motivated participants and allowed them to experience a sense of self-efficacy in theirballet class. (5)the participants reflected on the meaning of ballet while writing a reflection journal, andthis process of reflection was expanded and connected to the external aspect. Therefore, in ballet classesfor adult learners, an education combining practical lessons with the acquisition of terminology andtheory is required.
