AB - The purposes of this article were to review the several revisions of Chinses-Korean marking systems made by the National Insitute of the Korean Language and to experimentally investigate the auditory perception of the Chinese plosive /p/, /t/, and /k/ by 156 Korean people in general. The experimental process is that 156 participants had listened 30 disyllabic Chinese words, and selected one is regarded more similar to the sound between two Korean marking choices. Then, we did statistical treatment (X2 investigation) and analysed the result.
The experimental results indicated that the participants perceived the chinese bilabial, alveolar plosive /p, t/ with the first, second, third, and forth tones as the Korean bilabial, alveolar tense plosive “ㅃ, ㄸ”, respectively, and perceived the Chinese plosive /p, t/ with the neutral tone as Korean lax plosive “ㅂ, ㄷ”.
In case of soft-palate plosive /k/, the results of the present study were different from those of the previous research resultst. The Chinese soft-palate plosive /k/ with the first, second, fourth tone was recognized by Korean people in general as the Korean soft-palate tense plosive “ㄲ”; In contrast, the Chinese soft-palate plosive /k/ with the third tone and the neutral tone was recognized as the Korean soft-palate lax plosive “ㄱ”.
