ABSTRACT

‘Spec Construction’ is a construction with a specifier(Spec) phrase and X' in X-bar theoretical terms. In this paper, I examine Chinese conjunctive sentences corresponding to Korean conjunctive sentences with ‘-geodeun, -geoniwa, -ja, -deoni, -neunde, -jiman, -euna, -gireul, -gie, -eundeul, -deorado, -euljirado, -eulmangjeong, -giroseoni, -ji’ which were characterized as ‘Spec Constructions’ by Yang(2010a). I find that there exist three types of ‘Spec Constructions’ in Chinese conjunctive sentences, which are ‘...erqie...’ sentences, ‘yaoshi...’ sentences and ‘suiran...danshi...’ sentences. And there also exist three types of ‘Adjunct Constructions’ in Chinese conjunctive sentences. Among Chinese conjunctive sentences corresponding to the Korean conjunctive sentences with the conjunctive endings considered in this paper, are ‘yinwei...suoyi...’ sentences, ‘jishi...ye...’ sentences, and marker-less conjunctive sentences, i.e., sentences without conjunctive words.
