ABSTRACT

This paper is a study on the literary collection of Wen Tianxiang(文天祥) in Southern Song dynasty of China. The first appearance of Wen Tianxiang's collection of works can be said to be a 50-volume anthology engraved by Mun Bu(文富), the grandson of Wen Tianxiang in the Yuan Dynasty. However, this had only a few copies, and was not been recorded in any other books. Furthe more it had been already lost in Yuan(元) Dynasty. It has no connection with the later collections of Wen Tianxiang's works. Therefore, it can be said that the first edition related to Wen Tianxiang's collections of works is 『DaoTitag Edition(道體堂本)』. Just as 『Deng Biqing(鄧碧淸) mentions “One source and two lines(一個源頭 兩個系統),” Wen Tianxiang's work collections can be said to have been divided into two lines, the Jingtai line(景泰係) version and the descendant engraved version(家刻係本) from 『DaoTitag Edition(道體堂本)』 as its source. Although this first edition had been already scattered in Yuan Dynasty and no trace of the original can be found today, the existence of this first edition has made it possible for the better editions to come out later. The 『DaoTitag Edition(道體堂本)』 was reorganized into the seventeen volumes of 『文山集』 by Yin Fengqi(尹鳳岐) of Ming Dynasty, and thereafter was compiled into 『文山先先文文集』 in the 6th year of Jingtai(景泰) by the hand of Chen Jia(陳價). This is the first literary collection as Jingtai line version(景泰係本). This collection of works was further revised and supplemented by Zhang Yuanyu(張元諭) in the 39th year of Jingtai(景泰) to create the relatively complete 『文山先先全全集』. So most of the subsequent collections hasy used this version as their source material. By the time of Qing Dynasty, many engravings(家刻本) were made in the family, mainly by Wen Tianxiang's descendants, but because the compilation and proofreading were not precise, they are not used much in modern times. There are currently several versions, but all of them are based on the 39th year’ version of Jingtai. Among the collections based on the 39th year’s version, 『文天祥文文集』, published by Jiangxi People's Publishing Company in 1987, is considered to be the best organized collection of works so far.
