AB - This study focuses on the beings of the different world in Chinese ancient novels that was examined with an emphasis on the aspect of ‘humanization’ through the Tai-Ping Guang-Ji.
‘The different world’ covered in this paper is a different world from ‘This world[此界]’, including Mingjie(冥界) or Tajie(他界), and shows a complex and convergent character toward later generations, and both the traditional Hell of Buddhism and Taoism and the world of Chinese Taoism are also considered comprehensively. The characteristics of humanization were examined by focusing on the convection of the Tai-Ping Guang-Ji, God, Ghost, Yecha(夜叉), Yaoguai(妖怪), and Jingguai(精怪). In particular, the beings of the different world was examined in terms of substantive, socio-cultural, humanistic, and secular. By the realization of the different world and the changes in relationships between human and the beings of the different world, the beings of the different world show humanized patterns.
