ABSTRACT

Since recent policy announcements in Chinese universities advocate the establishment of Courses with ideological-political elements, the seamless integration of ideological-political education in foreign language courses has become a shared concern of the foreign language education academia in China. On this basis, this study conducts a thorough examination of 136 research articles related to Korean courses with ideological-political elements published between 2019 and 2023 in both Korea and China. The analysis is categorized by year, curriculum type, topic, language skills, linguistic elements, and learners’ proficiency. The findings reveal a consistent quantitative growth in research on Korean courses with ideological-political elements until 2022, followed by a recent trend of slowing progress. It proposes several future research directions, including heightened attention to general education, second foreign language education, and Chinese-Korean cooperative education. Additionally, it emphasizes the need for sustained theoretical and empirical research, thus exploring avenues for class management and talent cultivation. Meanwhile, it calls for the logical organization of ideological-political elements as the teaching content, active discussions on topics of textbooks, assessment, teacher and learner factors, with an increased focus on the interplay of specific language skills. Lastly, it recommends research exploring national and global cultures, interpretation and translation, literature, vocabulary, and a comprehensive investigation into the dynamics of ideological-political learning based on learners’ proficiency levels in the Korean language.
