ABSTRACT

The development of Chinese academic writing textbooks for international students is a Crucialcomponent of international Chinese teaching resource development in the new era. Based on an in-depth analysis of international students' needs for Chinese academic writing textbooks, this study systematically examines the current status, diagnoses problems, and proposes development strategies for these textbooks. The article first reviews the current landscape of existing academic writing textbooks for international students, covering aspects such as publication, structural organization, thematic design, selection of model essays, and compilation features. Subsequently, a needs survey of international student groups revealed that their core demands for academic writing textbooks focus on: disciplinary specificity, language training, and supporting resources.A comparative analysis of the current status and identified needs highlights the following key problems in existing Chinese academic writing textbooks:Limited publications with overly narrow target audiences;Insufficient emphasis on writing practice and language application;Weak pedagogical applicability;Inadequate multidimensional and digitized development. Finally, targeted improvement strategies are proposed:Developing textbooks adaptable to multi-level and multi-disciplinary contexts;Balancing the teaching of writing knowledge with writing skills training;Enhancing the pedagogical applicability of textbooks;Promoting the multidimensional and digitized development of teaching materials.
