ABSTRACT

This study aims to propose improvements to collaborative art classes as a means of effectively addressing peer-related conflicts, which are a significant source of stress for South Korean middle and high school students. Building on OJJDP (2021), the study confirms that collaborative art activities can help students overcome distorted emotions and thoughts, accept others' opinions, and resolve conflicts through creative expression, thereby fostering a strong sense of community. An analysis of the current state of collaborative art education in South Korean secondary schools reveals that the process typically involves group organization, role assignment, preparatory programs, the main collaborative art activity, and post-activity reflection. Through these steps, students alleviate psychological burdens related to art tasks, develop creativity, analytical thinking, and critical reasoning, and resolve peer conflicts while establishing a stronger sense of identity. Based on this analysis, the study proposes a three-stage framework for improving collaborative art classes: the first stage focuses on sharing emotions and learning creative perspectives, the second on resolving conflicts through mutual feedback and collaborative work, and the third on strengthening community ties to prevent future conflicts.
