AB - This study aims to examine the changing visual culture environment resulting from the emergence of generative artificial intelligence(AI) and to analyze AI-related content reflected in elementary school art textbooks developed under the 2022 Revised National Curriculum. Recently, generative AI has fundamentally transformed the ways in which images are produced, exerting a significant influence on visual culture as a whole. Accordingly, art education in schools increasingly emphasizes not only the understanding and utilization of AI technologies but also the importance of developing the ability to critically interpret and ethically utilize AI-generated visual information. The analysis of elementary school art textbooks revealed that AI-related content lacks continuity and systematic progression across grade levels. Furthermore, AI-related topics were primarily focused on understanding the principles of AI image generation, engaging in AI-based image creation activities, appreciating AI-assisted artworks, and introducing artists who create works using AI. Most of these contents were associated with fostering creativity and convergence competencies. In contrast, content related to ethical and critical understanding - such as the critique of AI-generated images, copyright issues, and the evaluation of the authenticity of fake images and videos - was found to be very limited. The findings suggest that art education in the age of AI should move beyond merely teaching the functional use of AI technologies and expand to include AI literacy education that enables students to critically understand and ethically utilize the visual information produced by AI.
