ABSTRACT

This study examined the structural relationship between leisure constraint and leisure motivation. Based on the review of related literature, a structural model of the relationship from leisure constraint to motivation was proposed and it was compared with a competing model of the relationship from leisure motivation to leisure constraint. Data were collected from 218 parents or other family members of 9 school students of city of Chuncheon, the city of 2010 World Leisure Congress. Result of structural equation model analyses showed that only intrapersonal constraint negatively influenced leisure motivation, while interpersonal constraint positively influenced leisure motivation. In addition, no statistical relationship was found between the structural constraint and leisure motivation. Furthermore, the proposed model was superior to the competing model in terms of model fits. Results imply that leisure managers should focus on the management of intrapersonal constraint.
