ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to analyze the main issues occurring in junior colleges participating in the LiFE project, which is a lifelong education system support project for universities of the Ministry of Education Republic of Korea, and to identify the characteristic phenomena of each issue factor. To this goal, using the case study research method, semi-structured interviews were conducted with adult learners, junior college officials, and professors of a college who participated in the LiFE project. The results first confirmed a multi-faceted understanding of the needs of the adult learners, the demands for practical purposes, and the goal of promoting self-esteem should precede at the adult learner level. Second, at the junior college level, it was confirmed that operating a project in connection with the junior college and the region could be a way to remove the learning obstacles of adult learners who have difficulties in balancing work, study, and family. Third, at the system level, it was confirmed that the contradictory conflict structure between the problem of securing the basic level of adult learners and the problem of flexible admission standards, the biggest task of the LiFE project, should be improved and compatibility should be explored.
