ABSTRACT

This paper analyzes narrative elements of Korean classical fiction embedded in Netflix’s K Pop Demon Hunters to explore its pedagogical potential for classical narrative education. The study identifies structural and thematic similarities between the film and traditional genres such as the female hero novel and romantic Cheongi novel. Like the female hero narratives, the three members of “Huntrix” embody heroism, dual identity, and struggles with otherness. However, unlike classical heroines bound by social constraints, Rumi transcends these limits through imaginative self realization. Similarly, parallels with romantic Cheongi novels appear in the themes of loneliness, human–spirit encounters, and poetic communication, though K Pop Demon Hunters diverges with its optimistic ending rooted in communal love. This comparative analysis suggests that integrating modern global media like KPop Demon Hunters into classical narrative education can make traditional Korean literature more accessible to contemporary and foreign learners while deepening their understanding of genre and cultural continuity.
