ABSTRACT

This study examines the meaning of friendship implied by Lefebvre's urban theory. Urban theory of Lefebvre is a liberating urbanism. By presenting his vision of transition to urban society, Lefebvre seeks to confront the oppressive power of the system to use urban space as a tool for economic growth. The core lies in the everyday practice of space users. I tried to interpret this way of practice in connection with the friendship of urban dweller. According to this, Lefebvre's urban theory reveals the path to approaching the problem of friendship at the spatial level, allowing them to discover friendship as a boundary crossing and friendship as a trickster. In addition, Lefebvre's discussion is not based on the ideals of an autonomous individual, but rather on the meaning of friendship as an lived experience and the importance of spatial capability accompanying it. Spatial capability is a capability that prevents the relationship of space users from being tamed or instrumented, and serves as the basis for pursuing friendship as a style of living.
