AB - Language teaching is the most basic and important teaching methods in education for students with hearing impairment. This study was done to reflect and suggest alternatives for establishing the orientation of language teaching for students with hearing impairment. Traditionally, problems of communication methods, like sign language, oral language, T.C., and 2Bi-Approach, have been discussed in relation to language teaching for students with hearing impairment. Instead of discussing communication ways, this research analyzed language acquisition theories, change of language teaching approaches, and features of Korean language to explore implications on language teaching for students with hearing impairment, in order to find language teaching alternatives for students with hearing impairment. Language teaching for the students with hearing impairment needs communicative approach in harmony with form and meaning, rather than focusing on one side. For this purpose, language teaching principles on balanced language teaching and focus on form need to be modified and applied in order to make them suitable for the linguistic characteristics of the students with hearing impairment.
