The perceptions of the majoring course teachers for CareerᆞVocational Education using STEAM education in the special education

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to investigate the perceptions of the majoring course teachers for CareerᆞVocational Education using STEAM in the special education. The subjects of this study were 589 teachers who are in charge of CareerᆞVocational Education in the majoring course at the special school in korea and the survey was conducted on them. The results of the questionnaire were analyzed the Frequency Analysis was utilized on the questionnaire items of the Nominal Scale which is the free-answer method of the study subjects. The Rank Questions were also performed by the Frequency of Multiple Responses to examine the perceptions of the majoring course teachers. The findings of this study are as follows: First, the goal of CareerᆞVocational Education that the most majoring course teachers in the special schools thought was career attitude and job preparation. The development and dissemination of CareerᆞVocational Education Program are also important, and the role of the special school teachers should play a leading role. Second, it was found in the teacher awareness survey on STEAM education, that more than half of the responding teachers ware aware of STEAM education and thought to be helpful for CareerᆞVocational Education of students with disabilities. In addition, it was shown, that they considered the STEAM-centered CareerᆞVocational Education Program to be necessary and the art-centered STEAM type to be most suitable because arts were interesting and accessible to students with disabilities.
