ABSTRACT

The Mechanisms of Mistranslation in Japanese Contemporary N.novels― Omissions in Translations―Yuji Hosaka(Sejong University)The purpose of this study is to examine the overt omissions that occur in translation works of Japanese into Korean. This paper is a comparative study between an authentic Japanese work and its Korean translation. In this study, 30 incidents of omission are found. They are analyzed into four categories, and each category considers the conditions of omissions the part of translator.They are as follows. (1) Lack of comprehension of the meaning of certain words(2) Loss of meaning emphasis of certain words(3) Carelessness in translation fulfillment. (4) Preference for simplified words that are similar in meaning
