ABSTRACT

This study aims at analyzing the roles of medical interpreting agents using 73 job advertisements and compare the roles with the job analysis results of medical interpreting agents from previous studies. Data on recruitment websites, publication dates, titles of posts, and recruiting institutions were collected in online job advertisements. Furthermore, this research obtained information on the educational background and experience required for the position, employment status, salary, major tasks, eligibility, and preferred qualifications. As a result, it was revealed that the medical interpreting agents’ roles in job advertisements were interpreting, coordinating, marketing, and consultation. In addition, it was investigated that not only general hospitals, hospitals, and plastic surgery and dermatology clinics but also advertisement and marketing companies recruited medical interpreting agents. It was also disclosed that the academic qualifications and language proficiency levels indicated in the job advertisements for medical interpreting agents were insufficient. Lastly, it was identified that recruiting institutions prioritized comparable job experience over a medical tourism coordinator or medical interpreter certificate.
