ABSTRACT

In this paper a novel location algorithm and ad hoc-based location system are proposed and also feasibility and performance are evaluated through the test-bed implementation. In particular, the environment we consider has more severe conditions than general environments that has been considered in other location systems. The developed location system facilitates installation and maintenance by utilizing a scalable multi-hop network infrastructure, guarantees freshness of location data by performing the proposed ranging algorithm, and has the functionality capable of analyzing location messages of a mobile node in real-time. Furthermore, we developed a location module based on the RF module operating on 900MHz frequency bands, which supports active and passive location identification modes associated with the developed network infrastructure and application software.
