This research examines the way of restoring cultural original forms and principles of battle formationof early Joseon dynasty with the center as Bird Cloud battle formation(鳥雲陣) on GyeChukJinSul(癸丑陣說). There are many battle formations after King Sejong period other than Five Battle Formation andBird Cloud battle formation regarding powers of armies or geography such as Jang-sa-jin(Snakeformation, 長蛇陣), Hak-ik-jin(crane wing formation, 鶴翼陣), Eo-rin-jin(papelonne formation, 魚鱗陣), Eon-worl-jin(half moon formation, 偃月陣). The principle of battle formation can also be principle of Korean cultural formation other than inmilitary way. Investigating principles of military battle formation in Early Joseon Dynasty, as culturalhistory way, there is original cultural form of epistemology and morphology founded through parademusic, orchestration, traditional dance, ancestral ritual formalities, military ritual formalities, annualevents, institutions and customs, and parade. The restored visual reflection of Bird Cloud battleformation above is regarded as Korean cultural principles and forms.

This study investigates the current state of qualitative research and academic writing from articles inThe Korean Journal of Dance Studies, Dance Research Journal of Korea, Korea Journal of DanceDocumentation, Research of Dance Education, Dance Research Journal (DRJ), Dance Chronicle:Studies of Dance and Related Arts (DC), Journal of Dance Education (JODE) from 2009 to 2013. Of873 research articles, 70 qualitative studies articulate research methods, data collection methods, dataanalysis methods, reflection on research process, methods of validation, and methods of ethical issuetreatment. In addition, I examine the academic writing styles, focusing on research title, expressionsreferring to the researcher(s), and reflections on researchers themselves. The analysis of qualitative studymethods suggests that Korean and American dance scholarships are more or less similar. The analysis ofacademic writing styles suggests that American dance scholarship shows relatively higher percentage ofqualitative writing characteristics in the all three areas.

Around the small theater, the “Space Sarang”, this study has the objective that process of acceptanceand dissemination of dance, watching cultural history of art is intended to discuss the circulatedmeaning and value with theater space. It is simply not executed dance performances. The red brick only in a Kim Swoo Geun’s symbolicway melted with the dance. Deformable stage, unspecified seats, barefoot entering are KoreanSarangbang’s way. To prevent closing theater, theater officials, performers, artists, audiences raised the fund forpurchase of the building voluntarily and held cultural arts festival. This will be reflected in ademocratic spirit through “Space Sarang”.
