ABSTRACT

This paper probes into the research productivity of Korean academic professionals and it’s determinants. Considered factors as explanatory variables are age, years served, status, final degrees and locality of the involved professors in 4-year universities in Korea. Research productivity that constitutes dependent variables in this study was measured by the written numbers of periodic journals, proceedings and related books. Saddle-typed productivity relationship between productivity and age(or years served) was not proved, but asymptotically upward increasing relationship was identified. However, those group who took Ph.D degree overseas were found showing saddle-typed productivity. As far as status was concerned, assistant professors were observed most productive, while full professors were shown the least productive.
