As the early twenty-first century discussion of an Anthropocene geological epoch suggests, human planning and intentions have had tremendous effects on the earth's ecosystems. One lesson has been that there must be a positive feedback loop for the proper resiliency in terms of system processes. Just as resilience is needed in the interactions across and within species for an ecosystem to persist over time, it is also a human imperative when faced with crises such as the massive perturbations of the Earth System we now call the Anthropocene. Among the variety of human capacities that the crisis will call upon, perhaps the most crucial is spiritual recovery. Resilience and sustainability of ecosystems will be possible only through spiritual enlightenment building on the open-minded attitude of individuals around the globe.

In most cases, Korean students find their actual motivation of learning in obtaining good results in various evaluations, whereas theorists and scholars tend to value educationally rightful directions in their academic works. Thus the concepts of efficiency and validity in educational practices seem to be in an irreconcilable contradicting relationship. This articles examines several international and domestic cases in which educational evaluation has been revised in pursuit of validity and discusses important implications for the betterment of Korean educational culture, requesting to value more validity in practical realms.

This study was designed to compare Chinese and Korean university students’ perceptions of the level of Koreans' multicultural receptivity. A multicultural receptivity survey was originally validated for determining and measuring Korean students’ multicultural receptivity based on its cognitive, affective and behavioral components. It was translated into Chinese to investigate Chinese students' perceptions of Korean multicultural receptivity. In general, Korean students’ self-evaluation was higher than that of Chinese observers as reflected in raw score responses. Using the Rasch measurement model, unidimensionality on the cognitive, affective and behavioral aspects of items was checked separately. Only three items related to the human rights of cognitive domain showed a similar pattern (unidimenional) in both groups. On an item related to the participation of disabled individuals in society, Chinese students’ perception of Koreans’ support outpaced the stated attitudes of Korean students. On an item related to Koreans’ respecting human life regardless of one’s background, Korean students’ expectations were higher than Chinese students’ perceptions. Implications of the results are discussed along with methods for enhancing multicultural receptivity and global citizenshsip in this globalzed era.
