Research Study on the Grade of Subjective Symptom and Recognition of Oral Malodor of Women’s College Students or Co-eds. Sun-Sook Kim Eun-Sook Lee1, Mi-Hyun So, Sun-Hee Woo Dept. of Dental Hygiene, Suwon Women’s College 1Dept. of Dental Hygiene, Kimcheon College Key words : oral malodor, oral malodor psychasthenia, volatile(hydrogen)sulfide This research study investigates the grade of the subjective symptom of oral malodor the students of Dental Hygiene Department located in Gyeonggi-do(Province) and Gyeongbuk area and then after measurement of the generation of the actual oral malodor, and then after the investigation of the both whether they are of one accord, the research will be helpful for the increasement of the recognition about the oral malodor, and at the same time this research study has been conducted for the purpose of utilization as reference material concerning the protection against oral malodor and the treatment and the conclusion is as follows: 1. Concerning the grade of the subjective symptom of the generation of oral odor, The 'A little bit oral malodor ' was the highest by reaching 77.6 %, and 'No oral malodor ' was 20%. 2. The time in which one feels the oral malodor most highly was revealed 'immediately after awakening from the sleep ' by running up to 88.2%. 3. Concerning the extent of the aversion during the generation of oral malodor from the other, 57.6% expressed as 'unpleasant', and it was 3.5% who showed no aversion. 4. Concerning the intention to participate in the protection program against the oral malodor 51.8% showed that they have intention of participation in the program. 5. The 132 respondents who answered that they had 'a little bit oral malodor' in comparison with the grade of subjective symptom of oral malodor and the measurement of the actual oral malodor showed the hydrogen sulfide 7.61±19.30, methyl mercaptan 9.53±67.90, dimethyl sulfide 58.31±121.37(p>0.05). The above research result was measured by limited subjects, and afterwards the more diversified and precise comparative study is to be required by means of the classification of various levels in case of the selection of the research subjects.

A study on the Health Science College Students’ Dental Health Behaviors

I got the following conclusion that analyzes the dental health recognition , attitude and the action of the students who major in health section executing questionnaire about dental health behaviors from March 3 through 26 with health-related university students in some area in order to arrange the fundamental data that manage their mouth health rationally by using the investigation and comparison by sex and department in dental health teaching. The results obtained were as follows: 1) A large number of students recognized dental health as an important problem, but they believed that the level of their knowledges on dental health was not so high and female students were more negative than male students with regards to their own dental health condition. 2) 49.8% of the students know about tap water fluoridation program control business and 60.7% agreed and boy's approval rate was higher than girl's. But 42.2% of the not-related buccal department's students have a reservation about tap water fluoridation program control business. 3) Average brushing number of the boy is 51.0% 2 times a day according to sex , A girl appeared highest by 48.3% 3 times a day and there was statistically significantly different according to (p< 0.01). there wasn't statistically significantly different according to department. Also, the period of the brushing was the most right after a breakfast , in the order of before sleep and after dinner. 4) Whether they go to the dentist's or not, 90.8% of them say 'yes', the result showed statistically significant difference according to sex (p< 0.01). but It didn't show statistically significant difference according to department. Also, the purpose for visiting the dentist's office lately was the most caries treatment, and there was statistically significantly different according to sex (p< 0.01), but there was not statistically significantly different according to department. 5) Oral health education - related subject approval's rate when the education course open is 65.0% there was statistically significantly different according to department (p< 0.01). Also when oral health education - related subject as the liberal arts open, the rate of taking a course application showed 50.2% high appear. there was statistically significantly different according to department(p< 0.01).

이 연구는 보건계열 학과에 재학 중인 학생들의 윤리의식에 미치는 영향요인을 살펴보고자 4개 전문대학 보건계열 학과에 재학 중인 학생 650명을 대상으로 실시하였다. 연구방법은 개별자기기입법에 의한 설문조사법이었고, 설문은 윤리 지식수준을 측정하기 위한 문항과 윤리교육에 대한 경험과 필요성을 묻는 문항, 윤리의식에 미치는 영향 요인을 묻는 문항, 윤리의식을 배우는 역할모델을 묻는 문항으로 구성하였다. 수거된 설문은 596부이었고, 회수율은 91.7%이었다. 연구 결과, 의료관계법규 지식수준과 팀웍 지식수준이 다른 윤리 지식수준에 비해 높은 것으로 나타났고, 의료관계법규 지식수준은 전문 윤리 교육 필요성을 인지하고 있는 학생에서 높은 것으로 나타났다. 전문가 윤리 지식수준은 전문 윤리 교육 필요성을 인지하고 있는 학생에서, 3학년에서, 직업 윤리 교육경험이 있는 학생에서 높은 것으로 나타났다. 의사결정판단 지식수준은 전문 윤리 교육 필요성 인지, 임상실습경험, 윤리의식 영향요인, 전문 윤리 교육경험이 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 이 중 가장 큰 영향을 미친 변수는 임상실습경험이었다. 팀웍 지식수준은 역할모델이 종교단체라고 응답한 학생에서, 윤리의식 영향요인이 가정이라고 응답한 학생에서, 전문 윤리 교육을 경험한 학생에서 높게 나타났다. 이상의 결과로 보아, 윤리교육의 필요성을 인지하고 있는 학생일수록 윤리 지식수준이 높은 것을 알 수 있었으며, 이 외에도 다양한 변수를 고려하여 후속 연구가 이루어져야 할 것으로 사료되었고, 본 연구를 통하여 보건계열 학과에 재학 중인 학생들에게 윤리에 대한 사고 기회를 부여했다는 점과 윤리 의식수준을 점검했다는 점에서 의의가 있다고 사료되었다.

A study on the relationship of characteristics to job satisfaction among dental hygienists

In modern society, every individual is in pursuit of personal satisfaction, and he or she should make a ceaseless effort to improve the quality of life. An occupation is newly viewed as a means of personal satisfaction rather than as a means of living, and more people find their job satisfactory than in the past. As the major duties of dental hygienists who provide customers with services are interpersonal, their lack of job satisfaction is likely to affect the performance of the institutions they belong to in a firsthand or secondhand manner. The purpose of this study was to examine the job satisfaction factors of dental hygienists in an effort to suggest how to bolster their job satisfaction in the future. The purpose of this study was to examine the job satisfaction of dental hygienists at nine areas including professionalism, autonomy of job performance, backing system, relationship with colleagues, relationship with workers of higher and lower position, relationship with dentists, relationship with supporting departments, relationship with patients and compensation. The subjects in this study were 178 dental hygienists in dental hospitals and clinics. The findings of the study were as follows: 1. Regarding the relationship of career to job satisfaction, the dental hygienists who worked for one or two years were most satisfied in terms of professionalism, as they got a mean of 3.84. 2. As for connections between academic credential and job satisfaction, those who graduated from junior colleges expressed the best satisfaction at professionalism, since they got a mean of 3.75. 3. As to link between current service area and job satisfaction, the dental hygienists who worked in the region of Gyeongnam were most gratified with professionalism, as they got a mean of 3.76. 4. Concerning relations between the type of workplace and job satisfaction, the dental hospital employees were most contented with professionalism, as they got a mean of 3.79. 5. In regard to the number of dental hygienists at current workplace and job satisfaction, those whose workplace hired 20 or 30 dental hygienists expressed the best satisfaction with the relationship with dentists. They got a mean of 3.94.

The Effects subjective fatigue symptoms To job satisfaction in daejon city and south chungcheong province of dental hygienists

In order to investigate the complaint rates of subjective fatigue symptoms and the degree of job-satisfaction among dental hygienists based on their socio-demographic and job characteristics and to find out the factors related with subjective fatigue symptoms and job satisfaction. The study subjects were recruited from 274 dental hygienists who worked at dental hospitals and clinics in Daejon city and South Chungcheong Province during the period between Jan. 5 and Feb. 11, 2007. They were asked to complete the self-administered questionnaires asking about their socio-demographic characteristics, job characteristics, daily life styles, job satisfaction and subjective fatigue symptoms, and the major finding of the results were as follows: 1. The mean scores of job satisfaction were 3.12±0.47 of the total full scores(5.00), and the highest scores were in the sub-domain of interpersonal relationship, and the lowest scores were pay. The scores of job satisfaction by socio-demographic characteristics and daily life styles were not significantly differences, but in job characteristics, significantly increased with those feeling satisfied with their job, those with appropriate amount of duty amount, those free of jop autonomy, those feeling satisfied with their monthly income, satisfactory personal relations at work. 2. The mean scores of subjective fatigue symptoms were 27.6±10.9 of the total full scores(60.0), and the highest scores were in the sub-group of bodily projection of fatigue(Group Ⅲ), and they were followed by difficulty in concentration(Group Ⅱ), dullness and sleepness(GroupⅠ) in their decreasing order of magnitude. The scores of job satisfaction by socio-demographic characteristics and daily life styles were significantly increased with the group of lower age, the group of irregularly breakfast habit and the worse subjective health status. Based on job characteristics, the score of subjective fatigue symptoms were significantly increased with those group of lower clinical career and monthly income, those feeling unsatisfied with their job, those with inappropriate amount of duty amount, those satisfactory personal relations at work. 3. The correlation of subjective fatigue symptoms with job satisfaction showed a negative correlation with r=-0.198(p=0.000), and job satisfaction were higher according to the lower subjective fatigue symptoms. The correlation among the scores of sub-domain of job satisfaction and the sub-group of subjective fatigue symptoms were significantly positive correlation. 4. The affecting factors of significance on job satisfaction included clinical career, duty amount, salary satisfacation, with the explanatory power of 32.9%. Those on subjective fatigue symptoms included the eucation and the subjective health statuts, with the explanatory power of 20.8%. When considering these results, the job-satisfaction and the subjective fatigue symptoms were significantly correlated with the job related factors than factors of socio-demographic characteristics and daily life styles. In addition, if job environments of dental hygienist can improved, their job-satisfaction and subjective fatigue symptoms are suggested to be betters.

A study on patients' choices over dental clinics and factors of complaint against medical service -focused on Seoul, Kyoungi, and Incheon areas

In order to provide basic information to help dental medical service with supplying gratifying service for patients, the survey is conducted on the patients who frequently visited dental clinics located in the areas such as Seoul, Kyoungi, and Incheon from May of 2006 to June. The survey results are as following; 1) Judged from the factors to make patients choose one dental clinic over another, the low cost of treatment accounts for 32.8%, and followed by physician's academic background/career experiences with 20.5%. In case of recommending to their acquaintances, physician's proficiency in treatment is ranked high as 56.7%. 2) For most desirable facilities for dental hospitals, the results indicate that cutting-edge medical equipment holds 46.7% and followed by a comfortable waiting room with 32.8%. 3) Examined the questions of what patients are most satisfied with dental clinics, 43.1% of respondents point out kind and detailed explanation. 14.1% also responds to constant care after the treatment. This result suggests that after-care and detailed explanation also play an important role in dental care as well as the treatment itself. 4) For desirable services in the waiting room, 28.5% of the respondents choose a selection of magazines and newspaper and 18.7% say that they want to converse with the staff. As to how long can wait with patience, 38.2% of the participants agree on as long as 20 minutes. 5) Among unsatisfactory sources against dental clinics while visiting, the high cost of the treatment is scored high as 34.1% and followed by a long waiting time with 22.1%. The figure points to the fact that dental medical clinics should consider these two factors to solve in the future. In case where patients find the treatment discontent and they are asked what to do, 36.4% of the respondents respond that they go to a different hospital without saying anything. As to the enquiry about how the complains should be dealt, 46.% wishes that the matter should be taken care immediately upon complaining. 21.8% suggests that they like to feel understood and acceptable when presenting complaints.

A study on the intraoral factor related to oral malodor

This study was peformed in order to find out the relationship between the causing factors and the production of each gas of oral malodor, to contribute the oral malodor control at dental clinic as well as to establish the effective application of malodor control project for public oral health program. 127 patients from 20 to 40 years old who had been visited for preventive dental cares were participated for the study. Such items as caries status , periodontal status , salivary flow, viscosity, pH, Snyder test , plaque deposit and tongue plaque were checked through the oral examination in order to find out the contributing factors. Hydrogen sulfide, Methyl mercaptan, Di-methyl sulfide and Ammonia gas components were checked with Oral-Chroma and Attain, the oral malodor check units. Not only the corelation coefficiencies but also the multi-way variance analysis were calculated between each causing factor and each component of oral malodor gases to estimate the contributing factors of the oral malodor. 1. There was no relationship between the caries status and each component of the oral malodor such as sulfur compound or Ammonia , both in laboratory test and VAS test (p>0.05). It revealed negative relationship between Hydrogen sulfide and FT(r=-0.1904, p<0.05) as well as the VAS and FT (r=-0.210, p<0.05). So, it was estimated that the less oral malador was recognized when caries state changed to filled state in Hydrogen sulfide laboratory test or VAS test. 2. High relationship was showed between salivary flow and Hydrogen sulfide (r=-0.183, p=0.039), Methyl mercaptan(r=-0.234, p=0.008), Dimethyl sulfide(r=-0.234, p=0.008) and Ammonia(-0.361, p=0.001) gas(p<0.05). 3. There was a high relationship between M-PHP(Modified-Patient Hygiene Performance Index) and tong plaque, all kinds of sulfide(r=0.249, p=0.005), Ammonia gas component(r=0.232, p=0.009). 4. It was found that considerable relationship was appeared between the periodontal status and Ammonia gas (r=0.274, p=0.002), so, it should be needed to control Ammonia. Such dental cares as the prevention or early treatment of periodontal disease and the accelerating the salivary flow as well as reducing the amounts and activities of filament or spiral typed oral micro-organism were recommended for adults, not only for dental care program at the dental clinics but also for public health programs, in order to promote the oral health and quality of life for individual and community peoples.

Analysis on some company workers' awareness of scaling and related factors

Purpose: This research aims to investigate into company workers' awareness of scaling and related factors and provide basic materials for setting up appropriate policies to improve the hygiene of the mouth of industrial workers and developing training programs for the worker's hygiene of their mouth, as part of researches to establish schemes for improving the workers's hygiene of their mouth. Method: Questionnaire was conducted by convenience sampling for 220 office workers belonging to H Group located in Seoul Metropolitan City over about 5 weeks between December 17, 2007 and January 20, 2008. The questionnaire for this study was constructed in consideration of general characteristics of the subjects, behaviors of the dental management, and scaling. The collected questionnaires were electronically processed using SPSS 12.0. Result: The followings are the findings of this research. First, in general, scaling is experienced by male unmarried worker in their 40s, whose monthly average income is 1.00-1.99 million won and have little interest in the hygiene of their mouth and, consequently, whose hygiene of the mouth is not good. Second, scaling is experienced once every six months by the worker in their 50s or older, who are college graduates and have much interest in the hygiene of their mouth and, consequently, whose hygiene of the mouth is good. Third, scaling is not periodically conducted because of high costs of it in terms of almost every parameter of general characteristics. Fourth, they have correct knowledge of scaling since they regard it as ‘removing of plaque and tartar’ in terms of every parameter of general characteristics. Fifth, the workers' sex (p<0.05), hygienic condition of the mouth (p<0.05) and knowledge of scaling (p<0.001) have a significant effect on their scaling experience. Conclusion: It is considered that dental health management should be continued by training of the importance of prevention through scaling as measure for dental health promotion of workers.

A Study on Satisfaction with and Recognition of Aesthetic Dental Prostheses among Citizens in Daejeon

The present writer conducted this study in order to seek desirable directions to enhance right recognition of aesthetic dental prostheses and maximize the aesthetic effect of dental prostheses, by investigating satisfaction with and recognition of aesthetic prostheses among citizens in Daejeon. the writer carried out a self-administered survey with a questionnaire, reaching the following conclusions. 1. It was revealed that 54.4% of them had previous knowledge of aesthetic prostheses while 45.6% had not, and among people with the knowledge, 20.8% acquired it from the dental clinic interested. 2. It was revealed that 58.9% were not satisfied with their front teeth, and among them 24.8% were discontented with their teeth color most. 3. In general characteristics according to whether or not they have previous knowledge aesthetic prosthesis, among people with the knowledge 58.8% were female while 41.2% were male, showing a statistically significant difference (p=0.002). 4. In terms of levels of satisfaction with aesthetic dental prostheses by age, in the case of dissatisfaction people over 30 were most with 14.1%. 5. In terms of levels of recognition of aesthetic prostheses according to whether or not they have previous knowledge of those, among people with the knowledge, 55.8% reported that aesthetic prostheses are necessary (p=0.000). 6. In terms of levels of recognition of aesthetic prostheses according to whether or not they have aesthetic prostheses, among people with knowledge of the kinds of aesthetic prostheses, 87.2% (p=0.000). It was thought that in order to create accurate recognition of and enhance satisfaction with aesthetic dental prostheses, dental care expenses should be adjusted reasonably and also dentists should perform public relations actively with accurate information and provide related education.
