This study analyzes determinants that have influence on economic class of household based on subjective perception of rural community residents in Tanzania, East Africa. Local residents of Lyamungu, Tanzania were asked to measure themselves according to four regional characteristics; economic characteristic, health related characteristic, householder characteristic, and social capital characteristic in order to figure out their perception on economic class. The results show that annual income and annual expenditure among economic characteristics are important factors in shaping their perception on economic class. It was identified that characteristics of a householder such as sex and age have significant relationship with family poverty. Specially, female householder and old householder perceive that possibility of escaping poverty is low. As for the health related characteristics, only chronic disease was perceived to be an important factor determining economic class. On the other hand, higher interaction among neighbors, bond among neighbors, shared values, and trust have a negative relationship with the possibility of poverty. In conclusion, according to influencing factors on self-evaluation about economic class of local residents in Lyamungu, Tanzania, they perceive income scale of a household, characteristics of a householder, and chronic disease as important factors for their economic level. In addition, people with higher interaction with neighbors perceived their economic class more positively. Therefore, political and economic intervention that can decrease poverty in Lyamungu, Tanzania and actual project that can increase the income are crucial. They also need to be accompanied with residential environment where active interaction among neighbors can take place.

Biomass energy utilization of Tanzania region leads to soil erosion, degradation of forests. after all, It is to give an adverse effect on the productivity of the crop and local residents health. The purpose of this study is to empirically analyze the factors affecting energy use patterns. and Through these results, this study is to provide a policy implications for mitigating the negative aspects in the use of traditional energy. Result of analysis, A convergent model was utilized, not the traditional model of the ladder, in order to analyze this study through a theoretical review. In the case of poor areas, it has been found that in selecting the energy shows a convergent form. In particular, the poverty level and assets of households in the economic factors have a significant impact on the choice of energy. and also Householder education and gender in social factors have been led to significant results. These results, based on this study, are to suggest policy implications for poverty and energy policy in poor countries.

Institute for Poverty Alleviation and International Development(IPAID) at Yonsei university performed a survey on Lyamungu village of Tanzania in May 2014. In this village, 32,000 residents are living, there are 3,600 households. The Main tribe of this village is Mboya, and the main agricultural products of Lyamungu are maize, beans, banana, coffee, etc. The contents of questionnaire are the following: household identification, household composition, land, crops/income, fertilizer, pesticide/herbicide, water management for farming, household assets, livestock, expenditure on livelihood, expenditure in farming, saving/lending/borrowing, energy use behavior, social capital, health/sanitation/disability, quality of life. Out of 3,600 households in Lyamungu, 150 households were surveyed with the questionnaire. IPAID conducted also an in-depth interview with the village head. This study aims to introduce the contents of questionnaire and to analyze our survey data. IPAID　is going to do an intensive analysis with this data and expects to contribute on poverty alleviation of the villages in Tanzania.
