The Effects of SNS-based Consumer Education on High School Students with Intellectual Disability of Economic Concept and Decision-making Ability

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of SNS-based consumer education on high school students with intellectual disability of economic concept and decision-making ability. In order to solve this research, a total of 30 students were selected for the study and the experimental and control groups included 15 in the each group. The experimental group was running the SNS-based consumer education program for a total of 20 sessions, 2-3 times a week. And the control group was implementing the contents of the curriculum in the traditional teaching methods during the same period. The results from the study are shown below:First, SNS-based consumer education had a significant effect on the intellectual disabilities learning the economic concept. Second, SNS-based consumer education showed a statistically significant effect on improving decision-making capabilities of intellectual disabilities. The results of these studies suggest that the SNS-based consumer education is an effective teaching strategy to enhance the economic concept based on problem resolution of economic activity as consumers and decision- making ability of students of intellectual disability by providing the opportunities for self-directed participation and immediate interaction through SNS.
