AB - This study examines how the imported concept “feminist” is culturally translated and recontextualized into the abbreviated form “femi” within Korean online discourse. Moving beyond conventional understandings of translation as interlingual transfer, the study approaches online linguistic transformation as a process of cultural translation in which social meanings, ideological positions, and affective attitudes are reconstructed within a new sociocultural context. Drawing on 8,767 online posts collected from the Korean online community DC Inside, the study compares discourse surrounding the keywords “페미니스트” (feminist) and “페미” (femi). Through keyword frequency analysis, semantic network analysis, clustering analysis, and sentiment analysis, the study reveals that the term “feminist” is culturally translated and recontextualized as “femi,” with attention shifting from broader discussions of gender and social structures to specific conflicts and contentious issues, while the term increasingly functions as a negatively charged label.
