ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to analyze the current status of leisure activities of youths and present practical tasks for activating leisure activities based on them. To this end, 663 youths living in Gyeonggi-do were checked for their leisure activities. The results of the study are as follows. First, youths had the most leisure time of 1 to 2 hours on weekdays and 4 hours on weekends. Second, youths usually played computer, games, and cell phones in their free time. In addition, the difference between elementary and middle and high school students was seen, with more respondents saying that elementary and high school students exercise in their free time, while middle and high school students said they sleep. Third, youths usually do leisure activities at home and there were many responses that they went to PC rooms or singing rooms. Fourth, youths were experiencing difficulties in leisure activities due to the cost burden and lack of facilities or places. Fifth, they were unable to participate in leisure activities because they did not have information about youth facilities or programs. Sixth, information related to leisure activities was obtained through school, teachers, friends, seniors and juniors. Seventh, it was friends and family who wanted to participate in leisure activities together. Lastly, the activities that teenagers want to participate in were cultural and artistic activities. These results suggest ways to effectively utilize youth leisure.
