Background: According to the recent seriousness of smartphone overdependence in adolescents, multifaceted efforts are required to prevent smartphone overdependence. Youth activities are being used as an important factor in the prevention and treatment of smartphone overdependence. However, studies examining the relationship between youth activities and smartphone overdependence are insufficient, and longitudinal studies are also lacking. Therefore, this study aims to examine the longitudinal relationship between youth activities and smartphone overdependence. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to confirm changes in smartphone overdependence in adolescence and to examine the contemporaneous and lagged effects of adolescent activities on smartphone overdependence. Methodology: In this study, the study subjects were selected using Korean child and adolescent panel data, and data from the first to third grades of middle school were used for analysis. The subjects of the study were 1,401 male students (54.2%) and 1,182 female students (45.8%), totaling 2,564 students. Findings: First, as a result of examining the trend of smartphone overdependence in adolescence, it was confirmed that smartphone overdependence increased linearly. Second, the contemporaneous effect of the number of participation in youth activities on smartphone overdependence was statistically significant. However, it was found that the number of participation in youth activities in the second year of middle school had a negative effect on smartphone overdependence. In addition, satisfaction with participation in youth activities was statistically significant at all time points except for the third year of middle school. Third, there was a lagged effect in the relationship between the number of participation in youth activities in the first year of middle school and the smartphone overdependence of the second year in middle school. Conclusions: Youth activities should be provided to prevent and treat of smartphone overdependence in adolescence. In particular, it was suggested that youth activities during the first year of middle school to prevent smartphone overdependence are effective in preventing smartphone overdependence.

Background: This study began with the need to recognize the importance of youth facility use experience, participation activities, and support for youth activities in order to enhance youth's awareness of policies in youth policy participation, and to seek countermeasures for them. Purpose: This study was conducted with the purpose of examining the mediating effect of participation activities and the moderated mediating effect of the degree of support for youth activities in the relationship between experience of using youth activity facilities and awareness of youth activity policies. Methodology: SPSS 27.0 and SPSS PROCESS macro 4.1 were analyzed using SPSS 27.0 and SPSS PROCESS macro 4.1 for 9,041 adolescents ranging from elementary school students to high school students who participated in the ‘2018 Youth Activity Participation Survey Study’ conducted by the National Youth Policy Institute. Findings: First, it was found that the experience of using youth activity facilities had an effect on the awareness of youth activity policies. Second, it was found that participation activities mediated the relationship between the experience of using youth activity facilities and awareness of youth activity policies. Third, it was found that the degree of support for youth activities moderated the relationship between the experience of using youth activity facilities and participation activities. Fourth, in the relationship between experience of using youth activity facilities and awareness of youth activity policies, it was found that the degree of support for youth activities moderated the mediating effect of participation activities. Conclusions: In order to raise awareness of youth activity policies, it is necessary to actively promote the expansion of youth activity facility use experience, participation activities, and active interest and support from families and local communities for youth activities.

Background: The cooperative competence is very dampened as ‘contact’ was converted into ‘non-contact’ due to COVID-19. Poorly prepared cooperation is likely to cause social problems, when the contact era resumes after the end of COVID-19. It is, therefore, important to examine factors influencing the cooperation and the causal relationship among them. Objective: The purpose of this study is to verify the mediation effects of self-esteem and leisure time on the effect of the parental autonomy support on the youth cooperation. Methodology/Approach: To this end, it used the 3rd data from「Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey 2018」conducted by the National Youth Policy Institute. The 3rd data were most recently published in Dec., 2021, after the survey began to be conducted in 2020. It analyzed the data of a total of 2,411 subjects. Result/Conclusion: First, the parental autonomy support has a positive effect on cooperation, euphoria and leisure time, and both euphoria and leisure time have positive effects on cooperation. Second, euphoria and leisure time have partial mediating effects on the effect of the parental autonomy support on the cooperation. Third, euphoria (.047) and leisure time (.002) have indirect effects on the effect of the parental autonomy support on the cooperation. Suggestion: It is thought to be necessary to draw up measures for the parental autonomy support, euphoria and leisure time to have positive effects on the cooperation, when ‘non-contact’ is converted to ‘contact’ after COVID-19.
